Last month, Annada, a luxury scarf brand, had their 3rd Anniversary event at Saks Fifth Avenue, which we were lucky enough to attend and view their Mesmerizing Scarfs Vs Paintings exhibition. At this exhibitions each scarf made by Annada was presented next with their original paintings across the Saks fifth avenue VIP lounge that lit up the atmosphere(Seriously) and visitors were free to try on any of the scarfs and purchase them.

Annada was founded by two Sisters, Nada & Noor, whose love for elegance in fashion inspired them to create their own Scarf brand. The sisters believe that no matter what a Woman's style or dress code is, a scarf is the perfect accessory and with endless styling solutions it is remains a versatile accessory throughout time. The scarf is made with a specific print that exactly resembles a painting done by Artists for this main purpose.

Tutorial tuesday: Masala rolls

7/16/2014

Asalamualaikum sisters!

How's everybody fasts going? I've been fasting 15 hours a day & to be honest it isn't as tough as it sounds ^_^ the hunger pangs only begin an hr or 2 before we break our fasts & that's the best time to keep yourself busy with either reading the Quran or preparing Iftari :)

So since it's Ramadan & it's been months since I blogged any recipes or tutorials, today I am going to share a tutorial on how to make Masala rolls. What are masala rolls? Well as it's name suggest, masala rolls are like your average coiled Cinnabon rolls except with a different filling. We're sharing three different fillings for your rolls, each of them are delicious on their own. For this tutorial I'm using our Soft bun dough recipe that we posted earlier last year & had a great response too.

So without further due lets begin.

For the filling-

We haven't specified the quantity of each ingredient as it's up to you, how much you require.

Asian style-

Tomato ketchup

Chopped onions

Crushed Red chilli

Chopped fresh green chilli

Capsicum

Cilantro.

Italian style-

Cheese of your choice

Parsley

Oregano

Tomato ketchup

Olives

Mushrooms.

Middle eastern style-

Zaater

Olive oil.

Method-

First preheat your oven to 180 degrees. After proofing the dough give it a quick knead to make it shrink to its orginal form & then half the dough in two portions. 4 cups of flour is enough to make 2 rolled out dough base. Then Roll out your dough till it's quarter inch thick & spread ketchup or tomato paste over it.Then sprinkle the above ingredients for either of the Asian or Italian style masala rolls. As for the middle eastern style roll, if you've worked with Zaater before, you'll know it's a dry powder so it's mixed with olive oil to form a paste type texture. Spread that all over your bread and they're ready to roll.

Italian style

Now simply roll in the dough width wise (tightly) like you would roll a Swiss roll or sushi ^_^. After you're done, gently with the your palms roll it forward and backwards to elongate the roll slighty.

When you're done simple chop them into 1 inch thick slices. WARNING: this part might be slightly messy because the ketchup will try to ooze out!

Place all the slices side by side in a greased pan & with your fingers slighty push the rolls downwards like shown in the images

Then you pop it into the oven for 15-20 minutes or till you think they're done!

Et Voila! Your masala rolls are ready to enjoy!

Masala Rolls are a perfect addition to your Iftar meals & also a nice way to impress your guests & best of all the kids will love it!

We hope you liked today's easy peasy tutorial! Do give it a try and let us know how you did on the comment section below or on our Facebook page!👍

Till the next post,

Have a Blessed Ramadan

Late night henna sessions!

5/21/2014

Assalamualaikum Sisters!

It's been a while since we blogged a henna related post, so here's a special one!

Some really close family friends returned from Karachi, Pakistan recently and these amazing people got us a henna cone all the way from our homeland! Isn't that the sweetest thing? :)

Now why are we making sucha fuss, well then let me tell you henna from Karachi (not sure about whole Pakistan) are the best ones we've tried. The stain is perfect , not too dark and not too light. Just the perfect maroon color. Beside that, the consistency of the henna is just right. No need to chop of the end to get that right circle for the right amount of henna to flow out (this might sound alien language to you if you're not familiar with using a cone, hehe)

So,for the past few weeks we've been trying out henna designs on our palms and the back of our hands at quite late hours of the night or shall I say early morning? :P We like to put henna in a relaxed atmosphere, after completing all chores and when there is no one a around to interrupt us. Unfortunately that only happens when we're about to go to bed :( and we're such slow pokes since we're not pro's therefore it takes us hours to get done with one hand, yeah you must be thinking "we?, for one hand?" Yes, we share lol. When one of us gets too nervous to apply a particular design we're not used to or the one we mess up usually, the other one volunteers to help out ! ^_^

Here are a few experiments with the That henna cone ... which we applied a night before an Indian wedding we had to attend. A few of them are inspirations from other pro henna designers and few are a result to brain storming.

Henna done by Omaimah on her own hand.

This is how the stain turned out on Omaimah's hand.

Stain of henna done by Areesha on her own fingertips.

Do let us know how we did in the Comments below!

Stay tuned for another henna blog post since there is another wedding happening very soon and we've got henna left in the henna cone! Yay! Hopefully this time we'll try not to pull an all nighter hehe! ;)

Till the next post,

Keep smiling

Love,

Tuesday tutorial: No stitch shrug

4/29/2014

Asalamualaikum sisters!

Apologies for a late blogpost! My laptop broke down recently and I was completely cut off with the blogging world :( I hope it gets fixed ASAP I got lots of things to do with my blog layout ^_^

Today I'll be sharing a simple tutorial of a lovely draped shrug made with a long scarf or shawl that's been sitting in your cupboard for ages maybe?

And the best part is you don't need to stitch it up *~* just a few knots and you've got yourself an elegant looking shrug that'll go well with every outfit!

Also it's a perfect modest wear if you think your sleeves are to fitted or short!

So let's begin!

I used a old black & white striped shawl used my mom once. Shockingly it is 106 inches long and 20 inches wide & that's maybe the reason why it was sitting in her closet for years o.O .

You can use a shorter one, but make sure it's rectangular in shape.

1- Fold the material in half, length wise.

2- Hold the top of the two ends (A & B) and tie them into a knot.

3- Tie another knot to secure it.

4- Now this is what it'll look sideways. No.1 is the closed end right before the loops that'll act live sleeves. No.2 is the open end which you split creating the front part of your shrug.

5- it will look something like this after you open it.

6- place your hands through the two loops like so :-

7-now you'll have a draped shrug in front of you. If you want you can stop there and wear the shrug in this style or you can continue by following the image below. What I did was flip those draped pieces behind my shoulders like the arrows below show.
